New Web Site Helps to Prevent Student Identity Theft
Deerfield, IL
March 10, 2005

The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) and the Federal Student Aid (FSA) have opened a new Web site to combat identity theft. Students and federal student-aid funds are being targeted by identity thieves, according to the OIG. The Web site, www.ed.gov/misused, offers tips to prevent and report identity theft. An e-mail address, oig.hotline@ed.gov, and telephone hotline, 1-800-MISUSED, have also been provided to report cases or suspicion of identity theft.
